Lenka is an unbelievably kind, empathetic, radiant, loving and witty 36 year old woman. It is hard to find anyone else who lives their life to such a full extent, enjoys it and loves it as much as her. Unfortunately, last year, Lenka was struck with a serious oncological diagnosis. She does not have much time left and she needs your help to undergo a promising treatment abroad.
Lenka worked as a flight attendant her entire life, connecting her two hobbies; traveling and working with people. Five years ago, she fulfilled her lifelong dream and completed her training in the Czech Armed Forces to serve as a flight attendant on the Czech Air Force governmental fleet which she loved so much.
Lenka is a fighter. She is a big-hearted, selfless person, willing to sacrifice herself for others. During the covid pandemic, she was one of the first to volunteer in retirement homes and she has never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. She and her partner were planning on getting married and having children. But instead of the longed-for baby, her world was turned upside down by cancer.
It was exactly one year ago that Lenka’s and her family’s life drastically changed. She found a lump in her stomach, which she had checked by the doctor thinking it was merely fat tissue. The histological examination unfortunately brought a devastating result – metastatic malignant melanoma, the most aggressive and most lethal form of skin cancer. The examination revealed multiple metastases in the subcutaneous tissue, lungs, pleura, peritoneum and ovaries.
An advanced biological therapy was immediately applied. Everything looked promising, the CT scans showed a clear remission of metastases. Lenka felt good and she was joyfully looking forward to each day. Unfortunately, seven months later, the MRI revealed a small metastasis on the brain, which was quickly treated with Gamma Knife, but which dealt another heavy blow to Lenka’s fight with cancer.
Biological therapy was switched to immunological therapy last summer, but the treatment did not work as intended. The process led to serious adverse effects in the form of an extensive intestinal infection. Lenka spent six weeks in the hospital, in severe pain, losing a lot of weight, when another metastasis was found on the brain. The disease was so cruel to her that it recently progressed once again and Lenka has to watch as the subcutaneous metastases spread all over her body.
But Lenka does not break that easily. She fights for her life every single day and tells us, that she is not afraid of death, but does not want to die yet. She has a lot to live for. And as long as she is able to draw breath into her lungs, she hopes and she believes.
Despite all the care and effort of her doctors, all possibilities of oncological treatment in our country were already used. But Germany offers a great hope for Lenka. They provide personalised oncological tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy (TIL) as well as oncolytic virus therapy. These treatment methods focus on patients whose cancer has so far resisted all treatment and they have excellent results.
This treatment abroad is unfortunately not covered by any of the Czech medical insurance companies and the family pays for all of expenses which are very high. This is so financially demanding that without your solidarity and help, Lenka will not be able to continue her brave fight. Any potential kind donations surplus to what Lenka needs will be further donated to other oncological patients.
Lenka wants as many people as possible to be aware of the risks of this malicious disease and begs you, if you have any doubts whatsoever, to consult a medical professional for your mole and birthmarks. You only start to hurt when it is too late. We wish to thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our brave Lenka in her fight.
